Editing A Section
The “Edit Setup” page is essentially the same when you create a new section or edit an existing one.
The only difference is that when you first create a section you will not be able to specify where it exists in the navigation. By default it will be added in the first place in the navigation. You can then change that position once the section is created.
General
Location: this is the link location of where the section sits on the site -/default.asp?section_id= (there is no id number yet as the section has not been created & saved, once saved a number will appear after the equal sign)
Section Name: specify the name that will appear in the navigation here – this field may not be left blank.
Access Level: (optional) you can specify if this particular section is only viewable to logged in users with a particular CAL (e.g. premium content section).
Note: you can allocate multiple user access levels by using CTRL-Click to select multiple options from the list.
Articles: if you select “Yes” then the section will appear in the “Section” drop down on the article page and allow you to allocate articles to the section.
If an article is allocated to a particular section then:
- it will inherit the look and feel of the section, and also the CAL of the section.
- by default it will use the section RHS as the RHS for the article; and
- it will automatically display in the article List module for that section.
Homepage: if “Yes” then a section homepage will be created for the section and an “edit homepage” button will appear on section home to allow you to administer modules on the section homepage. (Optional)
Section Modules: this dropdown option allows you to put modules that will sit on the right side & appear in the parent section and in a channel and topic section. If you select “yes” then an “edit section modules” link will appear on section home to allow you to administer the default RHS for the section. This is the RHS that will be applied to articles associated with the section. (Optional)
Section Parent: this where you can set whether a section (category) will be its own parent (have the parent be home) or a channel or topic, depending if you set the parent to an existing category (which then becomes a channel), or set its parent to a channel, which will then become a topic. The drop down will display the names of all existing sections, including invisible sections.
Note: if a parent section is invisible, then any child section allocated to it will also be invisible.
Alternate Style: if there are alternative look and feel styles available for your site then they will appear in the drop down here. Selecting an alternative style will apply the style to the section, all children sections and all other pages that have any of these sections as a parent section. (optional)
Note: the CSS file must be uploaded to /css and the name you enter does not include the .css part
Homepage Redirect: enter a URL to redirect all users who click on the section name in the nav to another URL. This may be either an internal or an external URL link. For internal links do not include the http:// or domain name part of the link. e.g. if the internal URL was http://www.mywebsite.com.au/shop/categories.asp?cID=2 you would omit the bold part of the URL and only enter the last portion after the domain name: /shop/categories.asp?cID=2. For external links you will need to enter the entire URL including the http://
