Sending an email
Date: 15-Jun-2010
This article describes the process for broadcasting an email.
Sending an email involves the following steps:
1. address the email
2. choose template
3. add text content (and html formatting)
4. add images (uploaded via Media as file type: email image) Note: the image sizes are fixed as certain dimensions in your template – you will need to make sure that any images you upload as email images are the right pixel height & width
5. send test email
6. choose target email list (you will need to choose the file that you have exported from Excel as CSV or TAB delimited in this step)
7. send email
8. review stats
NOTES:
1. For emailer sends using uploaded CSV or TAB Delimited data files the first column MUST contain the email address data and the second column MUST contain the first name data in order for the emailer program to send the email and to personalise the [first_name] field in the template with the first name data in the second column correctly
2. Any columns beyond column 2 - should have titles in the first row, and can then be used freely anywhere in email content. So you can further personalise the your email content by inserting a tag like [city] in the email body text and if you have a column on in your CSV or TAB delimited file with [city] in the header row, it will personalise this field in your email with the data found in the [city] column
3. When generating a CSV file from an Excel spreadsheet make sure there are no commas contained in any of the data columns (if you need to have commas in any of the data columns then you will need to put quotation marks around the entire data entry)
4. Likewise when generating a TAB delimited file from an Excel spreadsheet make sure there are no tabs contained in any of the data columns
5. Make sure there is no wrapped content in the Excel columns or content on multiple line in any of the Excel rows as these will not convert correctly to CSV or Tab delimited format.
6. If you get an error message when trying to upload a CSV or TAB delimited file in Emailer that looks something like the one below, the most likely cause is that the data file you are trying to upload contains incorrect data.
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0009'
Subscript out of range: '[number: 0]'
