Article page H1 and breadcrumbs generation
This is an overview of how the H1 header, breadcrumbs and RHS modules are generated on Article pages.
Assigned Section Parent
The default functionality for an 'article' page is that it will display the site header based on the assigned section parent. This means that the H1, breadcrumbs and RHS modules for the page will be based on which section is specified as its parent in the 'section' dropdown on the 'Page Set Up tab. Moreover this will remain true regardless of how the user gets to the page. It will always have the H1, breadcrumbs, and RHS modules of the specified section parent.
(Note: if article specific RHS modules have been set up on the article then these will over ride the default ones belonging to the section parent.)
Dynamic Section Parent
The above standard behaviour will be changed if the administrator changes the Section Header drop down on the Page Set Up tab tab from 'use actual section parent' to 'use dynamic section parent'.
If 'use dynamic section parent' is selected, then when a user clicks through to an article from a link in an Article List module then the article will have the site header (ie. H1, breadcrumbs, and RHS) as though the section parent of the article were the section they clicked through from.
So for example, say a website has two sections "Rivers' and 'Wetlands'. The site adminsitrator writes an article about the importance of water in an eco-system. This article is relevant to both sections and th administrator wants the article to look as though it is in both sections (not just in one section, with a hyperlink from one section to the other). To achieve this outcome the administrator can specify the articles section parent as 'Rivers', but also specify that the Section Header is 'dynamic'. They then include the article in an Article List module which they put on the Wetlands page. When a user clicks on the link to that article from the Wetlands page it will now have the Wetlands section header (and not Rivers). But if the user views the article by clicking a link on a page in any other section, then the article will look like it is part of the Rivers section.
(Note: if article specific RHS modules have been set up on the article then these will over ride the default ones belonging to the section parent.)
Section Page Re-direct
You can add any page on the site into the site navigation by using the Homepage Redirect function on the Section Page set-up in admin. Please note, the above functionality is not affected by Homepage Redirect function. If you redirect a section homepage to another page then the target page will have the site header (H1, breadcrumbs, and RHS) of the target pages' section parent, and not of the section that is being redirected.
To make it look like the page you are redirecting to is the same as the one in the nav you need to set the section parent of the target page to be the same as the section on which you set up the homepage redirect.
(If you've got then you might be thinking that using the section redirect means there will be two steps in the breadcrumbs going to the same page. There would normally, but we've specifically coded to ensure this won't happen)
